Mealtimes vary in our home — and honestly, that feels normal for this season.
Breakfast is something easy we can throw together: yogurt parfaits… eggs and bacon with toast… scrambled eggs with hashbrowns and some fruit on the side. Nothing fancy — just what’s quick and available.
Lunch? Well… let’s just say it’s rarely planned. We “scrounge” — in the best way. Sandwiches and fruit, leftovers from the night before, or a simple homemade pizza if the mood hits. It’s always simple. Always enough.
Dinner shifts depending on the day. Most mornings I grab meat out of the freezer to thaw and whip something together in under 30 minutes. Other days I plan ahead — those are my slow cooker days — the ones where the meal basically cooks itself while I live the day God gave me. (Crockpot meals are truly my love language.)
Keeping meals simple helps me for so many reasons…
Maybe it’s because I don’t want to wash dishes all day long.
Maybe it’s because my energy is needed elsewhere — homeschooling, mothering, homemaking.
Maybe it’s because I’ve cooked enough long, complicated meals to know that simpler can still be nourishing and good.
Or maybe it’s all of those things together.
Some of our current favorites:
• Chicken & gravy in the slow cooker — served over warm mashed potatoes 🤍
• Burrito bowls — seasoned ground beef, cheese, rice, chopped lettuce, sautéed peppers, and a spoon of sour cream on top
Over the years, meals have simplified — maybe because we have more kids now, or because I’m more tired by the end of the day… or maybe because groceries cost more… or maybe because I’ve learned that memories matter more than meal presentation.
Probably all of the above.
If another mama is reading this, here’s what I hope she tucks into her heart:
Feeding your family doesn’t have to be fancy to be faithful.
A simple meal served with love is more than enough.
Your presence at the table matters more than the menu.
Whether dinner looks like a crockpot masterpiece or sandwiches with chips…
you’re nourishing more than little bodies —
you’re nourishing a home. 🍽️🤍
